Quest of Humanity in the Inhuman World

POEMS OF DR. MAHENDRA BHATNAGAR
     — Dr. B.C. Dwibedy
Dr. V.N.Mishra has rightly observed in his comments about Poems: for Human Dignity by Dr.M.Bhatnagar -a translated volume of his Hindi poems: “His man fired with faith divine moves on because he is firm in his conviction that one day the heart rose shall bloom in the midst of impediments galore (Poems: For Human Dignity-Introductory cover page remark by Dr. V. S. Mishra). It is definitely a giant leap by the poet towards the quest that this small essay is going to elaborate.
For the last half a century the poet has been with avowed activity towards glorifying human dignity. A majority of his poems flourish with such themes in the hearts of readers who seek human dignity at every step.  It reminds us of the humanistic ideal: “the primacy of man in everything” or the Pythagorean maxim “man is the measure of everything”.
In his volume Poems: For Human Dignity at the outset the poet hoists the flag of love as the first marker of human dignity. From love has evolved life and with love life is lived and bereft of loveit is shattered. It is the driving force behind every action of man and this vital factor of life is at stake in the present world. Everything that man does looks at love.  Here everything does not include the action of human beasts or rather we can call them human demons that the present world is replete with. The poet expresses his blissful attitude for mankind. He wishes every man to be rich with the worship of love.
Let every man
of the world
indulge
always
in this pure best worship.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-1)
The poet has lived the life of love and dignity and has experienced the pain of undignified life for almost three quarters of a century in the social history of the country. It is not possible for him to withstand such decline. He observes that the scene of love in the life’s drama is full of infidelity that leads to hatred, separation and divorce in conjugal life.
Dr. M Bhatnagar hasunfathomed sympathy for the dignity of woman. The way man is behaving with his creator mother, loving sister, nursing wife or the offspring daughter – it’s all exhibiting only infidelity in the place of love. The poet motivates the world to revive the dignity of woman.  Moreover he is inspiring woman to keep her dignity erect on the touchstone of adversity.
Man has tried to utilize woman as a “purse purchased commodity”. The poet  rather becomes rough in his voice by using phrases such as ‘soulless slave girl’, ‘brainless  hand maid’, ‘lifeless doll’ etc. –metaphors  for woman as in the context of today’s deteriorating  life style.  He has strongly objected to the projection of woman in the world’s eyes as ‘down trodden foot wear of man’. Moreover he rejects the age old Shakespearean maxim by saying that ‘frailty is not thy name’; rather he laments the ignored dignity of woman in every nook and corner of the world.
O, long deprived pitiable, sad,
Prisoner! You jumped in the battle field
Taking the oath of youth
Co-operating with the world-wide
Lament……
(Poems: For Human Dignity-274)
The poet envisions in every woman the greatness of epic character Draupadi and relates the world affair with the consequences of the fall of her dignity. Draupadi was ravished in the king’s court by Dushasan and the consequence was terrible. A tear from a woman’s eyes is not a good indication for the world. The poet’s prediction is meaningful in this respect.
You will create horrible turmoil
By offering of sacrifices,
Your struggle will not stop, you
Will shake the universe
Have to pay price to you ……
(Poems: For Human Dignity-274)
She is the living embodiment of love herself; when she is ignored her dignity is shattered, love –the driving force gets humiliated, peace is invaded and man’s life becomes barren, he is cursed. The poet’s vision is seen as an eye opener for the human world.
Dr. MBhatnagar invokes integrity in man who is utterly disintegrated from home, land, self and soul for the sake of money.  This is another marker of human dignity but today’s man is divided in a hundred ways by caste, creed , religion, birth and so on; as such he is helpless, oppressed and shameful. In a good number of poems Dr. Bhatnagar uses an abusive tongue for man of this world while lamenting the fall of dignity into abysmal depth.
Bottomless fall of creation’s
grand creature.
Mean, narrow heart vomits
Poison creating disaster.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-80)
In a major part of the volume the poet depicts the fall of dignity.  The notion that man is the replica of god has changed its meaning in the present context. While exploring the delicacies of human life the poet finds the inhuman substances. Man is not able to recognize his own self.
Again and again
our god incites us
to kill other’s god
to destroy the symbols of
their faith
and thus feel that
paradise
is secure only for us.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-68)
The poet here definitely points at the selfish attitude of man which induces him to be involved in acts that are not congenial to human dignity.
The division of man in various branches such as caste, religion, birth, status etc. is vehemently criticized by the poet. He inspires man to be united beyond all differences since that unified state of man is a step towards dignity. Then only poverty that compels man to be naked can come to an end.
March, march ahead!
To break
Bestial horns grown on man’s head
And sharp teeth
To snap
The inhuman casteism!
To concentrate
In one string
The society and the individual.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-80)
In a major part of his poetry Dr. MahendraBhatnagar has championed the cause of those who live life in an undignified manner due to poverty, untouchability, starvation caused by injustice and suppression by the strong, terrorized and suffering from violence. These ways of life have converted the life into hell. Man leaves with a new religion –that is the religion of deception. The poet strives hard to bring a change and induce man towards human dignity, to create a new surface – a platform – on which human dignity can take a stand.
Obviously, the poet does not appreciate the naked sense of communal dignity which is a vehicle for disharmony. A sense of communality is the allied force of jealousy and violence. Every community, rather every individual should be cautious that no community, no language, no religion gets damaged due to him/them; then only man will deserve the right of safeguarding his own dignity. The same principle works here- ‘do on to others as you wish to get’. The poet observes that communal harmony itself is a part and parcel of human dignity. Tolerating others’ creed is a healthy habit since it fosters positive sentiment in man leading towards safeguarding dignity.
Live in unity,
this is the call of Karim and Shyam,
There should be one Hind
is the call of Rahim and Ram
(Poems: For Human Dignity-80
In order to live life the common man has to work and earn. Love for labour is another facet of human dignity. Believing in wind-fall gain is detrimental to value of life. The poet tries to inspire man to grow with love for labour and not to tame the habit of swindling. That will control a major part of the world wide corruption. He vehemently criticizes those monks, politicians, ministers who suck blood from common man for amassing wealth and show to the world their fame and pride.
Dignity gives man protection from the attack of narrowness. Dignity of culture, heritage, and citizenship of a country helps man living with honour.  Deception or a life of double standard is not regarded as a worthy way for man. The poet tries to develop in man an indomitable spirit to dominate his complexes such as greed, avarice, anger etc. However, this is a transcended level that is to be reached at with much concentration and avowed activity by man.
Man will love his fellow beings
Will rise above each division
Forgetting the difference
Between the familiar and unfamiliar,
Will welcome all.
               (Poems: For Human Dignity-58)
It will be a life of self-restrained liberty. The poet wants to see man in the form of a free willed, self-disciplined, controlled and balanced fellow traveller. He observesthat a man who exercises his liberty carelessly so as not to care for another’s prestige and recurrently hurts others is not a man who deserves any dignity.
This man
Shot dead
That one
With a bullet,
Because
He
Spoke
A different
Language.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-64)
Not only that but if a man worships the same god in another name, another form, another language he is abominated. The poet has an aversion towards such people who cannot understand such minimum surface differences and thus cannot tolerate others. He invokes modern man with a great hope.
Consider different languages
And scripts
As the accomplishments
Of human intellect.
Modern men!
Now don’t remain mute
And fence sitters.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-69)
The poet wishes to establish a sublime human religion which will be the marker of human dignity and human identity. He gives a clarion call to go back to the age of homosapiens when man’s identity was not linked with a country, a religion, a caste, a sub caste, a language, a dialect, a colour and a race. Through ages we have developed and we have fostered a block of ego for our dignity and that has taught us all the undignified manners.
Sun gives its light equally to the flowers and weeds and that is its dignity. Man will love the rich and the poor equally- that will be his dignity. Man in his present stature gives a shabby look. It is not the Shakespearean man who is known as the paragon of beauty made in the image of God, but it is the man without dignity. The poet does not find any light in the future path of man.
On man’s future path
Reigns the limitless darkness,
Reigns the thick darkness!
No moon or sun visible
Not even alarm trumpet is heard.
On the cliff of death
Stands the hushed humanity
Staggering off and on!
(Poems: For Human Dignity-151)
The poet heavily draws upon the cause of grief in the down trodden men who are deprived of all the pleasures of life and who are left with no choice but to live without human dignity. The poet advocates in support of them and makes a resolution:
Dignity of human may ever
Be secured and respected
It’s our resolution!
We ourselves be the maker of our fortune.
(Poems: For Human Dignity-151)
The poet’s perseverance towards human dignity is a theme that indicates the progressive nature of his writings.

No meeting between PM Modi and Sharif in US: MEA

New York (SAT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not have a bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif during his current visit to the US, officials said.
"As of now there is nothing, no bilateral meeting on the schedule," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told reporters here.
Modi and Sharif are staying in the same hotel in the city - the iconic Waldorf Astoria. When asked if there will be a "deliberate attempt" to ensure that paths of the two leaders do not cross, Swarup replied in the negative.
"There will be no deliberate attempt (at paths not crossing). If a hand shake happens, you will get to see it. If a pull aside happens you will get to see it," he said.
Sharif is slated to reach New York Friday evening.
Modi will address the Sustainable Development Summit hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on September 25, when the new and ambitious post-2015 development agenda will be adopted.
Sharif is scheduled to address the high-level meeting on September 27.
Modi will be in California on September 26 and 27 and will return to New York on September 28, when apart from meeting US President Barack Obama, he will attend the high-level Peacekeeping Summit at the UN headquarters.
Since Sharif will also be attending the summit, the multilateral gathering will provide a forum for the leaders of India and Pakistan to come face-to-face.
Modi, who arrived here on Thursday for his second US visit, will depart for India late September 28 or the early morning of September 29 but Sharif will remain in the city.
He will address the annual debate of the General Assembly on September 30, a day before India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj addresses the gathering of world leaders on October 1. (With Agency inputs)

Sri Lankan Navy arrests 6 Tamil Nadu fishermen

FishermenColombo (SAT): Sri Lanka Navy on Friday said it has arrested six Indian fishermen for allegedly fishing in Lankan waters.
The Navy said it assisted the Sri Lankan coastal guards in the seas off Kovilan Point to nab the fishermen last night.
"When the arrest was made the Indian fishermen had been fishing 3.5 nautical miles and 5.2 nautical miles off northwest of Kovilan Point," the Navy said.
The arrested fishermen and their two trawlers have been taken to Karainagar to be handed over to the fisheries authorities, it said.
The arrests came days after the Lankan northern fishing organisations rejected a request from their Tamil Nadu counterparts to discuss the recurring issue of poaching by Indian fishermen in the Sri Lankan waters.

Joy Banerjee apologises for his EC comment

Kolkata (SAT) : Actor-turned BJP leader Joy Banerjee on Wednesday apologised for his controversial remark that "Election Commission is in our hands" and said he uttered the words in over-enthusiam and believed that the CEC is the protector and pillar of democracy.
Banerjee's apology followed his visit to the state chief electoral officer, accompanied by BJP state president Rahul Sinha, after the EC asked party president Amit Shah to explain by September 25 Banerjee's remark that the poll panel was now under the party's control.
"Sir, I believe that the CEC is the protector of democracy and the pillar of democracy. Hence, I apologise for the words I uttered in over-enthusiam and beg you to pardon me. Let me tell you sir I am neither a office-bearer nor any executive of the BJP state committee," Banerjee said in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner through state CEO.
"In that meeting, I tried to say that the Assembly elections would be by CEC and would be impartial and free from rigging. But because of my non-selection of words it came out otherwise," Banerjee stated in the letter.
Sinha later told reporters that he was a film actor and had joined politics only a year back. "He (Banerjee) does not have much experience. It was his slip of tongue. BJP has full respect for democracy and democratic institutions," Sinha said, adding that a letter to this effect was submitted to the EC.
Banerjee had told a public meeting at Mayureswar in Birbhum on September 20, "They (TMC) had defeated us by cheating. But in the coming Assembly election it will not be possible as it will be held under Army vigilance and the Election Commission is in our hands."
In a letter to Shah yesterday, the Commission referred to the purported remarks of Banerjee and also to his remarks on the security arrangements for the Assembly polls in the state due next year.

Rahul Rawail resigns from Oscar jury over rift with Amol

Rahul Rawail resigns from Oscar jury over rift with Amol PalekarNew Delhi (SAT): Bollywood director Rahul Rawail, a part of the 17-member jury that collectively chose Court as India's official entry for the Oscars, on Wednesday resigned from the panel over differences with jury chairperson Amol Palekar.
Soon after Court - a Marathi courtroom drama directed by first-timer Chaitanya Tamhane - was announced as India's official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards, the news of Rawail leaving the jury started doing the rounds.
When IANS asked Rawail about it, he confirmed the news over the phone from Hyderabad, saying that it's "true".
"I've been hearing that people feel that I was not happy with 'Court' being selected. It is false. I am very happy with 'Court' and I'm proud of it," Rawail said of the movie, which even won the National Film Award in the Best Feature Film category for 2014.
"I'm proud that we had a great jury and some wonderful people who have a great knowledge of cinema and love for it... There was no issue in that, but yes there was one manipulative man. His name is Amol Palekar, who is the chairman of the jury. He is a complete manipulative person."
However, Rawail - who has directed films like Jo Bole So Nihaal and ...Aur Pyar Ho Gaya - clarified that he is not blaming Amol for manipulating for Court.
"It is not that he manipulated for 'Court'. People are saying that Amol must have manipulated for 'Court' because 'Court' is a Marathi film. That is wrong," Rawail said and added that Amol's "general conducting of proceeding was often manipulative".
The Film Federation of India (FFI), which selects the country's official entry in the Best Foreign Film category of the prestigious Academy Awards, to be held in Los Angeles on February 28 next year, appointed Amol as the chairman earlier this year.
Amol's own directorial Paheli was chosen as India's official entry for the Academy Awards in 2005. But it failed to make the cut to the final nomination list.

'Every schoolboy's fantasy' up for auction

'Every schoolboy's fantasy' up for auctionWhile most Star Wars fans are clamoring to get their hands on the newest franchise droid BB-8, deep-pocketed collectors will have a chance to buy original movie memorabilia such as Princess Leia's iconic slave costume in an upcoming auction.
More than 50 lots of Star Wars props and items owned by those involved with the production of the films will be offered up for sale on Oct. 1 at Profiles in History, the auction house said Wednesday.
A gold metallic bikini worn by actress Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia enslaved by Jabba the Hutt in 1983's "Return of the Jedi," is estimated to fetch between $80,000 to $120,000 but could sell for far more.
"It's every schoolboy's fantasy but it's also a very signature, iconic piece," said Brian Chanes, consignment manager at Profiles in History.
George Lucas' intergalactic Star Wars franchise first premiered in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and quickly became embedded into American pop culture.
The Star Wars sale, which also features cameras used to shoot the movies, scripts, posters and prototype Darth Vader helmets, is likely to whet the appetites of avid fans ahead of the December release of "The Force Awakens," the seventh film installment.
Toys from the new film were released early this month and have already become hot collector's items.
"It's exceedingly difficult to find anything of this nature from the original trilogy," Chanes said. "These are actually from production, that's what created history and mythology of Star Wars and that's why it's so important."
Another expected top seller is a miniature blockade runner spaceship from 1977's "A New Hope," the ship carrying Princess Leia and droids C-3PO and R2-D2.
"People love filming miniatures because it illustrates the magic behind the films," Chanes said. "It's something that's instantly recognizable and it happens to be the very first spaceship you see in the first 'Star Wars' movie."
The intricate 16-inch model comes from the collection of late visual effects Oscar-winner Grant McCune, and is expected to fetch between $200,000 and $300,000.
A Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet from the first film, the only one to ever be sold at a public auction, is estimated to bring upwards of $150,000.
The Star Wars items will be part of Profiles in History's Hollywood props auction from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, featuring more than 1,900 lots from films such as Back to the Future and Indiana Jones.

When Indian Army commanders eyed enemy land

book-1965Title: 1965-Stories From The Second Indo-Pak War Author: Rachna Bisht Rawat Publisher: Penguin Books India Pages: 189 Price: Rs 299 When Pakistan launched a full-scale war against India in 1965 and prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri announced a "fitting reply", Army commanders were quick in deciding India would also capture enemy land to get an edge in international negotiations which they felt would be inevitable after the conflict ended. This is one of many accounts in this book, which has been written by Rawat after speaking to a number of veterans. The book includes five key battles from the 1965 war and is backed by extensive research, interviews and profiles of war veterans, and has been termed by the Indian Army as an "authoritative narrative" of the conflict. "On the morning of 1 September 1965, the nation woke up to a startling announcement on All India Radio. Pakistan has launched a massive attack with tanks and heavy artilley in the Chamb sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The enemy's objective seems to be the strategic Akhnoor Bridge. Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri has declared that Pakistan will be given a fitting reply by Indian Army," the book says. It quotes Lt. Gen. Harbaksh Singh, the Western Command chief, terming this "the tallest of decisions taken by one of the shortest of men". "The general outline of the 'fitting reply' that Lt. Gen. Harbaksh Singh drew up had the Indian Army holding ground as close to the international border as possible in the Punjab and Rajasthan sectors and destroying any enemy that crossed over. He also planned on crossing the International Border and acquiring a large chunk of enemy territory which would give India a bargaining level in the political talks that would be inevitable after the war was over," the book says. In its account of the Battle of Asal Uttar, the book says Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid was on his recoilless gun, less than 30 metres from the road with his jeep hidden under the cotton crop. As the first tank came within shooting range, CQMH Hamid fired, setting the tank ablaze. "We were surprised to see the crew of two more tanks that were following, abandon their tanks and flee," the book quotes Lt. Col. Hari Ram Janu (retd) as saying. "We then realised that the Pakistanis fear of being burned alive since their religion says that makes them kafirs," he added. On the first day, Indian soldiers destroyed four tanks by recoilless-gun fire and five were abandoned. Some mines were laid down in the night, but the Grenadiers could hardly sleep when Sabre jets started flying over. The next day saw more tank attacks, with India disabling at least four more, while some were destroyed by the mines. The following day saw CQMH Hamid destroy his sixth tank. He spotted the seventh tank at the same time it spotted him. "There was no time to change position in the face of relentless artillery fire. Telling his driver and loader to get under cover, he aimed. Simultaneous explosions rent the air - the tank as well as Hamid's jeep blew up simultaneously," the book says. The book also details the battles of Haji Pir, Phillora, Barki, and Dograi - all through the eyes of the veterans who were in the thick of the action. (With agency inputs)

BJP using CBI to divert people's attention: Mayawati

BJP using CBI to divert people's attention: MayawatiNew Delhi (SAT): BSP chief Mayawati on Tuesday accused the BJP-led government of misusing CBI after the agency decided to question her on the multi-crore NRHM scam nearly four years after it surfaced and said the move reeked of 'political vendetta'.
Claiming that she had no connection with the scam, Mayawati, a former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, at the same time said the CBI was free to investigate her and that she would not be cowed down.
Questioning the timing of the CBI investigation against her, she said the move against her was an attempt to 'demoralise' her party and divert attention from the 'failure' of the government to fulfil its promises made to the people.
"I have no connection with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam. BJP, which is trying to use CBI, should give up such tactics as such attempt have cost them dearly earlier," she told reporters here.
CBI Director Anil Sinha said the agency will proceed as per requirement in the NRHM scam probe.
"The agency will proceed as per the demand of the investigation," Sinha told the media but refused to give any details of what was the requirement of examining Mayawati after filing 48 chargesheets in the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) scam.
CBI had called Mayawati on Monday for examination on two specific issues related to NRHM scam—bifurcation of Health and Family Welfare Department and appointment of District Project Officers considered key to the scam.
The move was an attempt to unravel larger conspiracy in the case, CBI sources claimed. A number of mysterious deaths of government medical officers had also marked the scam.
The BSP supremo claimed that the decision to question her four years after the scam came to light only reeks of political vendetta.
She said before a CBI officer called me, the news that "I could be questioned in the NRHM scam was leaked to the media in a bid to demoralise me and my party workers ahead of Bihar assembly elections".
Mayawati said such tactics of misleading the people will not help the BJP in any way.
"I do not succumb to pressure, I do not bend," she said.
But at the same time she said the decision of the agency could be the handiwork of some 'casteist officers' who look down upon Dalits and backwards.
"It is possible that the high command of the BJP is not aware of the move of these officers...it has to be probed," she said.
Explaining her stand on the issue, Mayawati said the decision was taken by her cabinet and subsequent decisions on appointing two chief medical officers in every district was taken by the concerned minister Babulal Kushwaha. The scam took place during Mayawati s regime between 2007 and 2012.
"I warn BJP to give up such deeds. Congress had also tried such tricks to divert attention from its failures of governance," she added.

Bihar polls: Advani, Joshi among BJP star campaigners

Advani, JoshiNew Delhi (SAT): BJP veterans Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha are among the star campaigners enlisted by the party to woo voters ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Rajiv Pratap Rudy are also on a list of 40 star campaigners that the party submitted to the Election Commission on Tuesday. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Jharkhand counterpart Raghubar Das are the only BJP Chief Ministers on the list. BJP president Amit Shah is also among the star campaigners. Since the formation of the Modi government at the Centre in May 2014, Advani and Joshi have been sidelined in the BJP and restricted to the party's Margdarshak Mandal. In the past, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accused the BJP of "dumping" party veterans like Advani and Joshi as they didn't figure in the election posters of the BJP in Bihar soon after the announcement of poll dates. Sinha, the BJP MP from Patna Sahib, had embarrassed the party by openly criticising party decisions and publicly praising Nitish Kumar. (with agency inputs)

PCB will not ask BCCI for bilateral series again: Shaharyar

Shaharyar KhanKarachi (SAT): The chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Shaharyar Khan has said that the PCB would no longer ask India to play the bilateral series planned in the UAE in December.
"I think we have said enough about the series and we are not going to ask them anymore. The ball is in their court now and they now have to decide and inform us about the fate of the series," Khan told reporters.
The former diplomat, in his most strong statement on the coming series and relations with India, said the PCB had done enough on its part to show its keenness to play the series and revive bilateral ties.
"I don't want to say anything more on the series. But what is causing us concern is that from what we know the letter we sent to the Indian board about the series has not gone to their government as yet," he said.
The PCB chief said if the Indian board backed out of the series which Pakistan is supposed to host it would approach the ICC and other member boards.
"The series is part of a proper MOU signed between the two boards and we will pursue this matter if required," he added.
Khan said that Pakistan's stance remained clear that cricket and politics shouldn't be mixed.
"Relations between the two countries have been tense in the past as well but we still played cricket. But since 2007 India has not played a test against us. We will not run after them now it is their turn to decide and realise the importance of reviving bilateral cricket ties."
Khan said that Pakistan had already started work on a Plan B but had not met with success as yet since they were only two teams free in December.
"One is Zimbabwe whom we have already played twice this year and the other is Bangladesh who will be busy in their (domestic) Premier League. But we are looking at other options as well," Khan said.
Pakistan's enigmatic fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also weighed in with his take on Indo-Pak cricket when he said it was not just Pakistan which needed to play India but also India which needed to play Pakistan.
"It is not just about us wanting to play them. I think it is also important for India to play us. And the fact is the financial rewards from a Indo-Pak series is immense for both boards and the positive is that money will eventually trickle down to the players and in helping the grass roots cricket," he said on Geo Super channel.
"India might be a financial powerhouse but even they know they can earn a lot more from playing Pakistan. There are benefits for both boards."
Akhtar also said that his statement that Pakistan should not play India until the conditions improve was misquoted.
"I just said that Pakistan and India should avoid giving too many statements including cricketers, officials and politicians as doesn't help the relations and there is a need to have Indo-Pak cricket matches."
Akhtar said regardless of what anyone might say, to him Pakistan and India matches remained the pinnacle of international cricket and regular matches would only help in the development of players as well.

Somnath should surrender, says Kejriwal

New Delhi (SAT): In a stern message to AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the legislator, who is on the run in a domestic violence case filed by his wife, is becoming an embarrassment to the party and he should surrender and cooperate with the police.
Breaking his silence on the row involving his former ministerial colleague, the AAP chief questioned Bharti's act of going into hiding and asked why he was running away from the police and scared of going to jail.
He should cooperate with police," Kejriwal said in his tweets referring to Bharti, who was the Law Minister during the 49-day stint of AAP government in 2013.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Bharti in a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra. The court said Bharti was "not only violent and outrageous at home, but also before the public at large".
Last week, a local court rejected his anticipatory bail in the same case. The party's top brass had then expressed its displeasure over his disappearance and asked him to cooperate with the police.
The party has been taking the stand that the Delhi Police has been targeting it. However, Bharti's act of going into hiding has not gone well with party leadership.
AAP leader Ashutosh on Wednesday said while police has been "unnecessarily showing a lot of interest" in the case, Bharti should "surrender and present his side of the story".
"The High Court has rejected his bail... he should come out in open and present his case before the investigating agency. There is no point in running away from the law.. we have respect for the law, we have respect for the courts and we believe that justice will be done," he said.
Somnath's wife thanks Kejriwal
A "surprised" Lipika Mitra thanked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for asking her husband and AAP MLA Somnath Bharti to "surrender" in a case of attempt to murder and domestic violence filed by her.
Police teams are looking for Malviya Nagar MLA Bharti since Tuesday after the Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail in the case.
"It's good that the Chief Minister has finally spoken out albeit after taking so much time. I am grateful to him," Mitra said.
Expressing her surprise over Kejriwal's stand, she wondered why AAP made Bharti speak on a issue like 'women empowerment' during a one-day special session of the Delhi Assembly in August.
"Considering they were defending him and made him speak on such issues I am definitely surprised that the Chief Minister has taken this stand...He should act as a CM first and friend later," she said.
On being told that Bharti was avoiding arrest as he may appeal in the Supreme Court, Mitra said, "Whoever is advising him is definitely not his well-wisher."
"Delhi Police is doing what it can. He should come out and cooperate with police," she said.

Bihar polls: Nitish names 242 candidates of grand alliance

Patna (By Sat Staff): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday named 242 candidates of his alliance for Assembly polls, with a major chunk from SC/ST and backward communities, and launched a blistering attack on BJP alleging it was "anti- reservation" and cannot but toe the line of RSS which is "like its Supreme Court".
Releasing the joint list of JD(U), RJD and Congress candidates of the grand alliance, he said it represents all sections of society with 16 per cent from general category, 55 per cent backwards, 15 per cent SCs/STs and 14 per cent from the minority community.
Kumar claimed the coalition stood united as there were no differences unlike in the NDA and said the people of Bihar will give a befitting reply to the BJP as they were watching its "divisive" politics.
Hitting out at BJP and RSS, he accused them of being against reservations and said the RSS, which was the ideological mentor of BJP, was seeking to install an "extra-constitutional" body to review reservations.
"It is clear that he (Bhagwat) feels the current policy of reservation is not right and wants some other system," he said, while reading out excerpts of the RSS chief's interview to RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser' and 'Panchjanya'.
"Any amendment in Constitution can be done in Parliament. They want somebody other than the Constitution, an extra-constitutional authority, which should look into who should get reservation and how long.
"Not in the Constitution or in Parliament but in the hands of the elite committee. It is a very dangerous view. It cannot be accepted," he said.
Questioning BJP's stand on reservation, he said whatever the ruling party may say it cannot go against the views of the RSS.
"The BJP has a government at the Centre, which has repeatedly claimed that they are proud to be Swayamsevaks.
"RSS view is final. Whatever BJP might say, it has no meaning. Like anything is decided by the Constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, it is final and there is nothing after that. The same way in RSS, if RSS chief says something then BJP has no say.
"The BJP is a political outfit of RSS and Swayamsevaks and pracharaks are part of this government. Whatever Bhagwat has said is final and there is no other thought," he said, charging the BJP with being against reservations.
The Bihar chief minister said development will be the main poll plank of the alliance and took a dig at the NDA coalition where differences among alliance partners were out in the open.
"It is an internal matter of BJP and we have nothing to say on this. People are watching BJP's politics and will give a reply," he said.
Wednesday is the last day for filing nominations for the first phase of polls to be held on October 12.
