<b>Lucknow, Feb 26 (PTI)</b> Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya today expressed confidence that the BJP would sweep the March 11 bypolls to the Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats.

The bypolls were necessitated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Maurya vacated the Gorakhpur and Phulpur seats respectively, following their election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

"The lotus (BJP's poll symbol) will bloom in both the seats. I have no doubt about this. The very fact that people are talking mostly about the BJP's winning margin is itself an indicator that the party is going to win.

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"You can be rest assured that we are going to improve our margin in both the seats," Maurya told PTI in an interview here today.

Taking a jibe at the opposition, he said, "As soon as the bye-elections were announced, the opposition parties started discussing the victory margin. This is a clear indication that the lotus will bloom in Gorakhpur and Phulpur."

The deputy chief minister, a former president of the state BJP, said as far as the vote-share was concerned, "60 per cent is ours and the rest is for the others to share".

On whether he wanted one of his family members to contest from Phulpur, Maurya said, "Party workers, owing to their affection towards me, floated the idea that someone from my family should contest the bypolls.

"However, I am a kaaryakarta-waadi (workers-centric) person, and not a parivaar-waadi (believer in dynastic politics). I am a member of the BJP's big family."

Referring to the BJP's winning show in the 2014 general election and 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, he expressed confidence that the "lotus will bloom in 2018 (bypolls) and it will lay a strong foundation for the 2019 Lok Sabha election".

The bye-elections are expected to witness a triangular contest between the ruling BJP, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress.

For the BJP, Gorakhpur is significant as it is the bastion of the chief minister, who has represented the seat in the Lok Sabha five times. Prior to Adityanath, the seat was thrice represented in Parliament by his mentor Avaidyanath.

Phulpur, on the other hand, was once the bastion of the Congress and represented by India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. It had, for the first time, witnessed a saffron surge in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, when Maurya won the seat.

According to him, this has become evident from the alleged reluctance of the police to arrest the actual killers of Shuhaib. Shuhaib’s murder has proved that the Marxists are not prepared to abandon their politics of violence.” </div>

 The CPI(M) suffered a setback on Tuesday with the police confirming that all the accused in the case relating to Shuhaib’s murder were CPI(M) activists. <b>Chennai (PNS): </b>Tamil Nadu is set to see the birth of yet another political ‘star’ and a star-led party on Wednesday when matinee idol Kamal Haasan would declare the  name and programme of the political outfit which he is launching.

As a prelude to the launching of his political party, Haasan went around Chennai city during the last two weeks seeking the blessings of veteran leaders like M Karunanidhi, CPI leader R Nallakannu and DMDK leader Vijayakanth. </div>

He had also called on Rajnikanth who too is expected to launch a political party soon.

Political commentators in Tamil Nadu are of the view that Kamal Haassan in all likely would  forge an alliance with the DMK for the upcoming elections. “His stance against communalism, his passion for  the Dravidian ideology all make Kamal Haasan and the DMK ideal coalition partners,” said N K Kalyanasundaram, Tamil Nadu’s political historian. </div>

Haassan had called on leaders of all parties barring the AIADMK, the BJP and the PMK. “Why should I call on people who do not know my politics, principles or ideology? They have been claiming that the political party I am going to launch would make no impact in Tamil Nadu,” the actor told reporters when he was asked about his ignoring the AIADMK. About the BJP, Kamal Haassan had repeated many times that he would not have any kind of truck with a party which is communal.

The PMK is another outfit which had been ignored by the star. Dr S Ramadoss, the party founder has made it known that Tamil Nadu could be saved from the present plight (corruption and nepotism) only by getting rid of the cinema culture from the State’s politics.</div>

Anbumani Ramadoss, the Chief Ministerial candidate of the PMK too has asked the people to shun film actors from politics.

Kamal Haassan would be ninth film star to launch a political party in Tamil Andu. It began in 1972 when M G Ramachandran, MGR to fans,  who was expelled from the DMK by the Karunanidhi clan, launched the All India Anna DMK  which captured power in the State within five years.

Though Sivaji Ganesan, another super star of the MGR era, had  launched Tamizhaka Munnetra Munnani in 1987, the party died a silent death within three years. He was followed by Bhagyaraj, S S Rajendran, T Rajender , Sarat Kumar and Seeman. But none could make any kind of impact in Tamil Nadu politics except Vijayakanth who launched the DMDK in 2005 and went on to poll 10 per cent of the popular votes in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. </div>

The DNDK forged an alliance with the AIADMK in the 2011 Assembly election and won 28 seats which saw Vijayakanth emerging as the Leader of the Opposition. But his party got disintegrated and  in the 2016 assembly election even Vijayakanth  was defeated.

On Wednesday  morning, Kamal Hassan would visit Rameswaram to offer prayers at the memorial of APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India. Since he is against the Hindutwa politics, the actor would had declared that he would not vist the Sree Ramaswamy Temple at Rameswaram. He would declare the name of his party and its manifesto later in the day at Madurai, also known as the Temple City of Tamil Nadu. </div>

<b>Lucknow (PNS):</b> On the eve of the first ever ‘UP Investors’ Summit’, the Khadi and Village Industries Board and global e-commerce giant Amazon India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to promote Khadi apparel manufactured in the State under the brand of ‘UP Khadi’ over its online marketplace. </div>

As per the MOU, Team Amazon would educate and train khadi artisans to directly sell their products to online customers. The online portfolio would include products such as Khadi shirts, kurtas, dhotis, towels and gourmet food which have huge potential and demand in urban areas.

The agreement was signed by Khadi Minister Satyadeo Pachauri and Director and General Manager of Amazon India, Gopal Pillai. </div>

“We would deploy our team to train Khadi artisans associated with units that are onboard with us,” Pillai said.

The Government plans to lay out the red carpet for global and India Inc for the Summit to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. </div>

 The Chief Minister has already said that UP has potential to attract private investments of almost Rs 1 lakh crore in the sector, especially in the backdrop of Modi Government aspiring for greater defence indigenisation under ‘Make in India’. </div>

 The importance that Yogi attaches to this new manufacturing segment is indicated in his scheduled presence at the session on ‘Defence and Aerospace: Investment Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh’ which would be chaired by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the concluding day of the Summit on February 22.

The State Government has also planned to develop a defence manufacturing hub in the arid region of Bundelkhand, </div>

which has an abundance of non-agricultural land.

The proposed 320 km long Bundelkhand Expressway connecting Jhansi and Kushinagar and intersecting 302 km long Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the proposed 352 km long Purvanchal Expressway is projected to boost the prospects of defence manufacturing corridor through faster connectivity and better logistics.</div>

<b>Lucknow (PNS):</b> The two-day UP Investors’ Meet starting from February 21 is likely to infuse new life in the Health sector of Uttar Pradesh as the government is to sign 27 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with pharmaceutical and healthcare companies inviting an investment  of Rs 6362 crore.</div>

 “This investment will not only bring a turnaround in healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors but will also help in generating jobs in different parts of the state,” Health minister Sidharthnath Singh said in a written statement issued in Lucknow on Monday.

He said that investors have proposed to pump in Rs 5378 crore in healthcare sector and hile Rs 984 crore in pharmaceutical sector.</div>

 “The total proposed investment in the health sector is likely to be Rs 6362 crore,” he said.

The minister said that new healthcare units will come up near Yamuna Expressway, Noida, Greater Noida, Lucknow, Mathura, Ghaziabad and Moradabad.</div>

he said adding that the healthcare sector will provide jobs to around 37,000 people while 13,000 people will get employment in pharmaceutical sector.

Being tipped as platform fixing, the East Central Railways (ECR) is in possession of a few audio recordings, which suggest that the vendors at the railway station in Bihar were bribing railway officials to get the platform changed for any incoming train in order to increase their sale.</div>

3 Pakistan boys cross into Indian territory, to be sent back home

Claiming that she had no connection with the scam, Mayawati, a former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, at the same time said the CBI was free to investigate her and that she would not be cowed down.</div>

Questioning the timing of the CBI investigation against her, she said the move against her was an attempt to 'demoralise' her party and divert attention from the 'failure' of the government to fulfil its promises made to the people.</div>

"I have no connection with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam. BJP, which is trying to use CBI, should give up such tactics as such attempt have cost them dearly earlier," she told reporters here.</div>

CBI Director Anil Sinha said the agency will proceed as per requirement in the NRHM scam probe.</div>

"The agency will proceed as per the demand of the investigation," Sinha told the media but refused to give any details of what was the requirement of examining Mayawati after filing 48 chargesheets in the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) scam.</div>

CBI had called Mayawati on Monday for examination on two specific issues related to NRHM scam—bifurcation of Health and Family Welfare Department and appointment of District Project Officers considered key to the scam.</div>

The move was an attempt to unravel larger conspiracy in the case, CBI sources claimed. A number of mysterious deaths of government medical officers had also marked the scam.</div>

The BSP supremo claimed that the decision to question her four years after the scam came to light only reeks of political vendetta.</div>

Mayawati said such tactics of misleading the people will not help the BJP in any way.</div>

Explaining her stand on the issue, Mayawati said the decision was taken by her cabinet and subsequent decisions on appointing two chief medical officers in every district was taken by the concerned minister Babulal Kushwaha. The scam took place during Mayawati s regime between 2007 and 2012.</div>

Bihar polls: Advani, Joshi among BJP star campaigners

Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Rajiv Pratap Rudy are also on a list of 40 star campaigners that the party submitted to the Election Commission on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Jharkhand counterpart Raghubar Das are the only BJP Chief Ministers on the list. BJP president Amit Shah is also among the star campaigners.

Since the formation of the Modi government at the Centre in May 2014, Advani and Joshi have been sidelined in the BJP and restricted to the party's Margdarshak Mandal.

In the past, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accused the BJP of "dumping" party veterans like Advani and Joshi as they didn't figure in the election posters of the BJP in Bihar soon after the announcement of poll dates.

Sinha, the BJP MP from Patna Sahib, had embarrassed the party by openly criticising party decisions and publicly praising Nitish Kumar.

Breaking his silence on the row involving his former ministerial colleague, the AAP chief questioned Bharti's act of going into hiding and asked why he was running away from the police and scared of going to jail.</div>

Last week, a local court rejected his anticipatory bail in the same case. The party's top brass had then expressed its displeasure over his disappearance and asked him to cooperate with the police.</div>

Kumar claimed the coalition stood united as there were no differences unlike in the NDA and said the people of Bihar will give a befitting reply to the BJP as they were watching its "divisive" politics.</div>

Hitting out at BJP and RSS, he accused them of being against reservations and said the RSS, which was the ideological mentor of BJP, was seeking to install an "extra-constitutional" body to review reservations.</div>
